Poplar Grove Winery 'Lakeview' Rose, Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Beautiful, juicy, dry.
A beautiful package, and right now it benefits a great cause.
For every bottle of this single vineyard Merlot Malbec rose sold online from the winery $2.50 per bottle will be donated to the BC Hospitality Foundation, which supports those in the hospitality industry facing financial challenges.
The Merlot and Malbec were harvested from the estate Lakeview Vineyard. This vineyard is situated on the Naramata Bench between Poplar Grove's Davenport and Chapman vineyards overlooking Lake Okanagan. Bunches were hand picked and sorted in the vineyard. Juice from the Malbec was extracted from the red grapes before any significant skin contact occurred. The process of producing rose wine as a by-product of red wine fermentation is a French technique known as saignee.
It also boasts a chic glass closure and is the colour of pale pink petals. The 2020 is scented with cranberry, sweet summer berries, peach stone and pee pollen, aromas, which are layered with wet roses and wild herbs. It's a dry wine with more muscle than you might expect; the flavours here are juicy red fruit sprinkled with fleur de sel.
Vibrant red cherries and sun-warmed strawberries, orange blossoms and ruby grapefruit aromas lead to a bone dry palate with citrus, tangy red fruit, finely ground spice and cedar. It is snappy and precise with structure, levity and complexity ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen

Poplar Grove Winery Rose Nouveau, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Juicy, light, delightful.
Made from a blend of red grapes this new low alcohol version of Poplar Grove's popular pink weighs in at only 85 calories (per 5oz) and 8% alcohol. TBH I've struggled mightily with low alcohol wines but this one I'm not mad at, not at all. I can see sipping away at this all afternoon in the sun and feeling better than I would with a wine almost at double the ABV.
It is a medium salmony-pink with joyful notes of orange pekoe tea and watermelon rind, peach stone, strawberry and faint cedar aromas. The palate is light, juicy and bone-dry with tart red berries, red apple skin, rhubarb stalk, cranberry and wild herbal flavours. Quaffable. ©copyright 2022 Daenna Van Mulligen

Poplar Grove Winery Rose, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Slick, fresh, tangy.
A blended red rose, which was made by leaving pressed in contact with the skins for four hours, then cold settled and cool fermented to preserve its bright fruit flavours. It has a light salmony hue and notes of smoked cherries, orange bitters, wild herbs, red currant and rhubarb, red apple skins and cedar. The texture is slick and it has distinct herbal grassy notes woven with tangy red berries, charred orange peel and spices. Good structure and weight here, a definitive food wine with
white meats, charcuterie and cheese, salmon, ratatouille or duck. ©copyright 2022 Daenna Van Mulligen

Slick, fresh, delightful.
Made from Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot. The pressed juice was left of the skins for four hours, then cold settled and cool fermented to preserve the bright fruit flavours.
Sweet raspberries and honey, wild strawberries and vanilla, rhubarb and dried herbs dominate the nose. It's a dry pale pink with a perception of sweetness from red berries, which are supported by citrus and fine spice flavours. Slick on the tongue, its is fresh and balanced and a delight to drink. ©copyright 2020 Daenna Van Mulligen
