Moon Curser 'Contraband' Syrah, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Smooth, wild, spicy.
Osoyoos-based Moon Curser Vineyards makes a range of wine, many rare in Canadian soils.
The Contaband Syrah shows blackberries and black raspberries, sarsaparilla, warm mocha and a hint of violets. The entry is smooth and grows more textural mid-palate. Fresh but with a wild savoury side, it doles out cocoa, espresso, black fruit and peppery spice flavours and trails toasted oak across the finish. .
Pair with grilled or roasted meats aged goat cheeses or rich winter stews.

Seductive notes of blueberries and pomegranate juice, vanilla, baking spices and chocolate lead to an equally generous palate. It's both muscular and approachable, slick and supple, with intensity and expressive purple fruit flavours woven with toasted spice, iodine and espresso. It has polished tannins and a lengthy finish. Expect smoked plums and cocoa, roasted coffee beans and toasted spice with undertones of grilling meat. It's fresh off the top and becomes more grippy mid-palate. Restrained black fruit is layered with spice, toasted oak and dark mocha. It's a muscular wine, brooding and savoury that will pair well with BBQ, roast, hard cheeses and game meats.
