Yalumba 'The Virgilius' Viognier, Eden Valley, South Australia
Readers rated this wine:
Presence, woven, powerful.

At 170 years old, Yalumba is the oldest family owned winery in Australia, home to one of the largest viticulture nurseries and the only winery cooperage in the country.
Yalumba was also the first to commercially plant Viognier in the Barossa Valley in 1980 when there was only an estimated 11-14 hectares in the world, primarily in Northern Rhone Valley. For many wine lovers, Yalumba's Viogniers were their first taste of the variety; this is their flagship white.
The Virgilius is the top tier barrel select Viognier from Yalumba; it reminds me of an aged Semillon.
High voltage lime and lemon oil aromas mingle with browned butter matchstick, straw and wild honey, chamomile and charred orange peels. The palate echos the nose; it is powerful and woven, balanced, slick, complex and has wonderful presence.
Pairs Great with Gone Crackers Roasted Shallot & Herb
