Hahn Winery Pinot Noir, Monterey California
Readers rated this wine:
Fragrant, supple, modern.
The family owned and run Hahn winery was established in 1980 by Nicky and Gaby Hahn. This modern Pinot delivers plush notes of sweet plums and cherry, vanilla, cedar, star anise, dried violets and cocoa nibs. It's a fresh wine with balanced acidity highlighting red ad purple berries. It has a supple weight and smooth texture; fine spices and cocoa trail on the finish.
Pair: wild mushroom and roasted shallot risotto, plum glazed duck, squash ravioli or lamb. ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen

Kingston Estate Petit Verdot, South Australia, 2010
Readers rated this wine:
Some days (especially in the winter) I think there's just not enough decadent single varietal Petit Verdot around. Australia handles it well and here is a tasty example. It's a fruit-bomb (no denying) with blueberry, black raspberry, chocolate, vanilla and savoury toasted spice. It's chewy and full in the mouth. Flavours of sweet purple and black fruit are layered with brown spice, and roasted coffee beans. A wine for grilled beef, roast and mature cheeses.

Provacative, generous, fresh. A Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and traditional Sangiovese, this provocative red stimulates the senses with aromas of sweet cherry, leather, coffee liqueur, spiced cocoa and a bouquet of roses and violets. The palate is supple and offers a generous muddle of berry and cherry flavours alongside dark chocolate, vanilla, licorice and spice to mimic the nose. It is medium-bodied and fresh.

Marchesi de Frescobaldi Chianti Castiglioni, Tuscany Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Value, classic, savoury.
This wine offers undeniable value in a prominent, savoury and classic Chianti. Tangy red berries and red cherry, leather, bruised roses and forest floor, bittersweet cocoa, white pepper and fine spice with undertones of scallions. The palate is restrained, with more leafy/tobacco and spice than fruit. Good freshness and powdery tannins complete offer great support.
Pair: tomato sauce pastas, classic Italian cuisine, pizzas and cheeses. Pairs great with Gone Crackers Parmesan & Rosemary ©copyright 2016 Daenna Van Mulligen

Marques de Caceres Crianza, Rioja Spain
Readers rated this wine:
Succulent, balanced, textural.
Classic Tempranillo aged in French and American oak for 12 months followed by additional bottle age, the Marques de Caceres delivers bruised strawberries and iodine, saddle leather, prune, vanilla, cinnamon, clove and dry earth aromas. It's a medium-full bodied wine with liberal toasted spice and dark cocoa and licorice root flavours. The tannins are dry and chalky but it has lovely balance overall.
Textural and succulent, it lends itself well to food, especially slow cooked dishes; tomato based sauces, roasted meats, grilled red bell peppers and other savoury tapas. ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen
