Tangy, young, textural.
Joven is Spanish for young, and this version from Stag's Hollow comes from estate vines in Shuttleworth Creek Vineyard, Okanagan Falls sub-GI and the Stag's Hollow Vineyard, Okanagan Falls sub-GI. It went through Malolactic fermentaion in stainless steel and neutral oak barrels and matured on fine lees for 9 months. A splash of Dolcetto was added before bottling, it was unfined and unfiltered.
Cherry cough syrup and mashed strawberries, vanilla, pretty rose petals and wet cedar aromas lead to a restrained palate. Red tart fruit, cedar, tobacco dust and dried violet flavours dominate the palate, the acidity is notable, the tannins textural.
A wine for higher acid foods with tomatoes, or classic Spanish tapas.
