Textured, fresh, restrained.
Marques Grinon has two distinct estates: Several years backI visited Dominio de Valdepusa, which is in Toledo (it also is its own Pago--special place limited to site), and El Rincon in the DO of Madrid.
This 100% Temranillo is from the broader, Castilla-La-Mancha and was aged in barrel for 8-months in American oak. I spent an evening over finner with Carols Falco, the 5th Marquess de Grinon when I was in Spain on that visit. Unfortunately he passed away from COVID in March of 2020.
One of the entry labels but still boldly structured, it suggests strawberries and cherries on the nose, faint white pepper, cinnamon, close, vanilla and undertones of dusty soil. The entry is fresh, it is a textured wine with expression of its terroir. Restrained red fruits tango with leather and tobacco; it's dry and bony with oak dust on the finish.
A wine for food; tapas, roasted meats, cheeses and Spanish preserved meats.
