Thoughtful, generous, seamless.
Made under the guidance of winemaker Howard Soon, this wine hails from the poor, rocky hillside soils of the southerly Similkameen Valley. The vineyard is owned by John Welson and Suki Sekhon and they grow five varieties on 75-acres of rocky and sloped, well-drained soils.
The Meritage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that was small batch fermented and matured in new and second fill French and American oak.
This, the third vintage of this wine, is outstanding; plums and dark forest berries, bittersweet chocolate and violets, vanilla and espresso aromas are grounded by garrigue, graphite and wild sage. It is monumental like all the Vanessa Vineyard wines; seamless with a generosity of fruit and spice, buoyed by balanced acidity. Impressive posture overall.
