Black Hills 'Alias', Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Slick, expressive, mouthwatering.
A newer member of the Black Hills portfolio, Alias is an aromatic blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurz, Schoenburger, Muscat and Ehrenfelser. It's a fun addition to the Black Hills' portfolio with creamy stone fruits and guava, zesty, honey and has an earthy core. Slick and a bit oily with expressive fruit and mouthwatering acidity. Nice concentration.

Black Hills 'Ipso Facto', Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
This new blend of 60% Syrah, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon was first released in 2014 for the Wine Club at Black Hills. There was no 2015, so here we are at 2016 and it's available to buy online. Ipso Facto by that very fact. It has a seductive nose; blackberry, Italian plums, espresso, licorice, finely ground white pepper and baking spices. It is wonderfully vibrant on the palate, high-toned fruit leads and spice and bittersweet chocolate trail across the finish. Excellent structure and balance.

Black Hills Estate Winery Carmenere, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Impressive, spicy, juicy.
There has been impressive progress shown in Black Hills' Carmenere as the vines get older. While it has always impressed, this (considered) Chilean variety (via Bordeaux) is rare in British Columbia. Sweet plums, wild purple berries, brown spices, leather, hints of red bell peppers mingle with liquorice and vanilla on the nose. The brightness of the palate is what elevates this wine - despite it's spicy and earthy character the juicy fruit gives it lift. Superfine cocoa tannins linger on a finish barely dusted with spice.

Black Hills Estate Winery Carmenere, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Succulent, savoury, smooth.
Please serve this wine at a temperature slightly cooler than room temperature, it really does benefit, as do most reds, which are being served too warm.
Paprika and toasted spices, wild red berries, shaved dark chocolate and tobacco aromas rest atop charcuterie and wild herbal notes. This vintage has a fresh entry, it shows tangy red fruits, peppery spices, pipe tobacco and bitter chocolate. It's leaner than I recall from previous vintages, a medium+ body with a smooth texture.
Pair: roasted meats, pepper steak or risotto with mushroom jus and fresh savoury herbs.

Black Hills Estate Winery Carmenere, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Impressive, stylish, vibrant.
Increasingly impressive, this Carmenere offers red plums and tangy red currents, Szechuan peppercorns, vanilla, baking spices and grilled red bell peppers. Amazing vibrancy and liveliness in the mouth. It delivers expressive fruit flavours layered with oodles of peppery spices. Sweet and savoury with a feminine lilt, it is a lengthy and complex wine, with ripe tannins.
