Founded in 2001 by winemaker Ted Kane, River Stone is a small estate winery located in Oliver BC. It's comprised of two estate vineyards: River Rock, the 10-acre home vineyard planted in 2003; Boulder City Vineyard purchased in 2020 and planted in 2005. The estate focuses primarily on Bordeaux-varieties and aromatic whites.
The Corner Stone is a blend of Merlot (36%), Cabernet Franc (29%), Cabernet Sauvignon (17%), Malbec (12%) and Petit Verdot (6%) grown in the River Rock Vineyard.
Black cherry and current aromas are layered with cedar, toffee, licorice, leather, dried herbs and wildflowers. It has a fresh entry and shows more grip and power than the single varietal Merlot. Overall more earthy with smooth but more pronounced tannins.
Components were aged in French oak (33% new) for approx. 12 months, then it was blended and returned to barrel for six, for a total of 18 months.

Lup-smacking, racy, verdant.

Like many Okanagan wineries, hit hard by a disastrous widespread cold snap in 2024, River Stone reach out to our neighbours to the south in Washington and Oregon to source fruit to make wine. River Stone selected grapes from Horse Heaven Hills and Wahluke Slope in Washington State. The Sauvignon Blanc comes from Horse Heaven Hills and Is a racy and verdant version with pineapple and peach, green apple lime and citrus blossom notes. The palate reflects the nose; bold citrus, think grapefruit and lime, is layered with strong peachy flavours. It's juicy and lip-smacking.

The Malbec grapes are grown on the estate River Rock Vineyard, and Red Brick Vineyard in Osoyoos.
It's a plummy wine quite pretty (and less savoury than many BC Malbecs) with black raspberry, vanilla, licorice and chocolate notes. Fleshy with a supple entry it is fresh, medium-bodied and harmonious. The finish tails cherry and cedar flavours.
Wine was aged in French oak (33% new) for approx. 14 months.

It's been a decade since I last tasted the River Stone and wines but I do recall this pretty wine.
The aromatic Splash is a blend of Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Viognier. It's an off-dry and fragrant wine offering white flowers, peach, honey and faint spice and ginger notes. It's a pristine white with a lively zesty character, peachy/honey flavours and a long white grapefruity finish.
