Lemony, creamy, bright.
Buchanan describes his small cuvee wines as: sustainable, honest and progressive, producing wines with personality and a purity of flavour.
He uses indigenous yeast, minimal amounts of sulfites, no enzymes and no temperature control; they are unfined with little to no filtration.
For this Semillon (with 2% Sauvignon Blanc), the grapes (harvested on the Golden Mile Bench) are de-stemmed and soaked on the skins 3 hours prior to pressing. They are then racked into a combination of French Oak and stainless steel barrels with a combination of native and cultured yeast strains for fermentation. A natural malolactic fermentation is encouraged with bi-weekly battonage for 6 weeks.
Beeswax and grilled lemons are woven with notes of star fruit, chamomile tea and a whisper of roasted hazelnut. It has a supple entry and flavours of lemons 3-ways: Lemongrass, grilled lemon and marmalade.
Bright yet succulent.
