September 2013 marked the 30th anniversary of this wine being sold in Canada. You'll notice a new label (with that 30th anniversary nod) on this Canuck favourite.
It has always been a dependable everyday red for grilled meats, burgers, chili or watching the game. Aromas of black currents, black cherry jam, sarsaparilla, baking spices are lifted with minty/eucalyptus notes. It is supple in the mouth with appealing freshness to lift the chocolaty, spicy, black fruit and coffee flavours. The finish is smooth and spicy.
Second Review: June 2015:
Ripe and chocolaty, peppery spices, eucalyptus very ripe cassis notes and licorice on the nose. The palate is similarly ripe - almost dried fruit alongside fruitcake, with coffee and chocolate. The acidity keep it from being bottom-heavy but it is certainly not as fresh as previously tasted.
