Moon Curser Carmenere, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Spicy, fresh, extracted.
Chile's flagship Carmenere variety is a rarity in the Okanagan but Moon Curser is an advocate of more obscure varieties like this one.
Aromas of black pepper and purple berries, iodine, kirsch and chocolate, coffee and wild herbs are echoed on the palate. It leads with freshness and purple fruit and culminates in tealeaf and toasted oak; it seems overly extracted, which manifests in overarching bitterness. The mid-palate seems hollow and the finish sharp. I recommend decanting before serving but this does not supply the enjoyment I found in the previous vintage.
