Gray Monk 'Monk's Blend', Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
NEW, fresh, fragrant.
This first vintage of the Monk's Blend was harvested from long-standing growers for Gray Monk from the south Okanagan (70%) and Similkameen (30%) valleys, this blend of 73% Syrah and 27% Cabernet Sauvignon was oak aged (varietals separately) for 8 months in American and French oak; mostly 2 to 3-year-old barrels. The wines were later blended just before bottling. Black cherry and raspberry aromas are layered with vanilla, licorice, cedar, pipe tobacco and chocolate. It has a sweet jammy palate like the nose suggests, with berries, vanilla and baling spice flavours. It's a modern approachable red with nice freshness. ©copyright 2022 Daenna Van Mulligen
