Bartier Bros. Piquette Rose, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Located on the Black Sage in Oliver, Bartier Bros. make honest, classic wines of quality.
Piquette has historically been the winemaker and vineyard crew's wine. It's a simple wine made from a second pressing of grapes after the initial, intended wine. It has lower sugar and therefore alcohol (4.2%) and BB adds some carbonation to their version to keep it interesting and refreshing. It's also a way for a winery to bring in extra income from what would otherwise be deemed leftovers; crucial in times like these.
As I mention above this is a simple wine, no need to get into fancy talk about it. On both the rose and the white (both come in cans) the nose is more distinguished than the palate.
It's a pale salmony-orange shade with notes of peach skin and melon rind, wild berries, tangerine and wildflowers. Very light-bodied and spritzy with just a hint of orange pekoe tea flavour.

As I mention above this is a simple wine suggesting tart red berries and rhubarb, grapefruit and cranberry. It's dry light and crisp on the palate.

Notes of lemon peel, melon, pear and pomelo lead to a very light-bodied palate with mouthwatering acidity.

Bartier Bros. Rose, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Glorious, silky, delicious.
A pale blushing apricot with a rose gold shimmer, this exquisite pink is made from Chardonnay (56%) and Gewurztraminer (42%) with a splash of Merlot for colour. The grapes came from Bartier's estate Cerquira Vineyard, comprised mostly granite glacial till with a sandy loam topsoil and from their Summerland Vineyard, which contains silt topsoil on mainly granite gravel. The wine was aged on lees in stainless steel for 4.5 months. It's a dry rose, weighing in a 2.7g/L residual.
Always one of my favourites, the 2020 features aromas of rose water and orange blossoms, peach stone and rhubarb with just a hint of strawberry. It's a joyous wine, juicy, slick and substantial; the finish is racy and trails candied citrus peel flavours.
