Ruffino

Tuscany

Ruffino Aqua di Venus Pinot Grigio, Friuli, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Beautifully housed in a unique striated glass bottle, Tuscany's Ruffino makes this approachable white from the northern Italian region of Friuli. They also make a rose and a Tuscan white blend similarly bottled and labelled.
It's a fresh and pretty wine, approachable and fruity with honey and melon and floral notes. It has a silky texture and snappy palate. It's quaffable and well marketed.

Ruffino Prosecco 'Extra-Dry', Veneto Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Fizzy, fresh, fruity.
Expanding their portfolio to the Prosecco DOC, Ruffino offers this classic version with powdered acacia, warm honey, apple, pear, melon and peach aromas. It's extra-dry (which means it's sweeter than brut) so it has a definite sweetness on the palate. Fizzy on the tongue it delivers flavours of candied peaches layered with pronounced marzipan. It finishes with a lick of lime and meyer lemon.

Ruffino Riserva Ducale Oro, Gran Selezione Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Outstanding, complete, woven.
Gran Selezione is the premium tier of Chianti Classico, the first of which were released in 2014 from the 2010 vintage.
Ruffino's Sangiovese dominant version is blended with Merlot and Colorino, harvested from their Gretole and Santedame Estates in the Castellina subregion of Chianti Classico. The wine was aged for roughly one year in traditional large and neutral oak casks (Slovenian oak of 925-2,985 gallons). After a year, the wine was transferred into small second-use barriques for another 12 months. The wine then spent an additional 3-4 months in bottle to allow it to settle before release.

It emits sweet cedar and violets, plump forest berry and cherry aromas, pipe tobacco, leather and fresh earth and shrubbery. It's elegant and woven fresh and balanced. A complete wine with flavours of charred orange peel and spice peeking through red fruit. The tannins have a classic chalky texture, the finish is lengthy.
Outstanding.
